About Dr. Rafael Lopez, D.C.
Unlike my wife, I was born and raised, and lived most of my life in my hometown of San Jose, California and the surrounding Bay Area. A strong sense of community is something I hold dear for myself and family. I enjoyed the comfort and access to our family and many friends located there. I grew up in a household that was the center of many social gatherings. A sense of service and contribution to my community is a high priority of mine.
What brought me to southern ArizonaOur desire for a slower pace and a more peaceful life as well as a closer bond with nature brought us here to the beautiful high desert grasslands of Southern Arizona. My parents have lived in Elgin since about 2000. Visiting them over the years has given me a great appreciation and curiosity about the area. I can understand why they chose to retire here and I look forward to creating many new connections here.
Why a House Call-Only Practice? My interest in creating a House Call Practice comes from the desire to increase the accessibility and convenience for our community to receive chiropractic care. The thought of a health care provider coming to my home to care for my family has great appeal and value to me. It’s no wonder that this health care model is becoming increasingly popular in many other health care fields as well.

My commitment to my core values of community service, environmental consciousness, social responsibility and the desire to make a positive impact in the world helped clarify and focus my interest in becoming a health care provider.

My Clinical Background
I received my undergraduate degree in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) from San Jose State University in 1995. I've worked as a employee or as a consultant in the EHS compliance field in various industries of high hazard technology, semiconductor, manufacturing and pharmaceutical. After about six years in this field, I pursued a career change which brought me to my ongoing education as a health care provider.
During this career transition, I became a Certified Massage Therapist. This fueled a newfound interest in and passion for the study of human anatomy and physiology. This passion led me to the study of chiropractic. I graduated from Life Chiropractic College West in 2006 and started my first practice shortly thereafter.
Over the years, I've pursued post-graduate education and advanced training in upper cervical chiropractic care. This is area of the spine at the top of the neck, which protects the brain stem of the central nervous system. It's a vital key to the health of the entire body. Like my wife, this has been an area of exclusive focus in our practice for many years and continues to be the primary emphasis of our care.
I've had the great pleasure and joy of attending numerous chiropractic mission trips with my wife to El Salvador and Nicaragua and have cared for thousands of people with upper-cervical-specific adjustments.
In addition to providing chiropractic care with Lopez House Calls Chiropractic PLLC, I'm also an Ergonomics Consultant. The applied science of ergonomics is becoming commonplace in a huge variety of work environments. It's becoming increasingly evident that repetitive bio-mechanical work activities, if done improperly, can contribute to chronic injuries of the spine and extremities. These conditions can impede the natural healing process by contributing to the stress on the nervous system. This additional experience has deepened my understanding of of the interrelationship between chiropractic care and ergonomics, allowing me to provide a more experientially informed level of care for my patients.

Outside of Work
In my personal time, I spend as much time as I can with my family. We enjoy hiking and exploring the great outdoors. We also enjoy hosting home-cooked gatherings and sharing good times with family and friends. We hope you can join us sometime.
